PMD makes rain predictions for Karachi and Lahore

The PMD has issued a warning for heavy rainfall across Sindh over the next 72 hours

The city of Karachi is experiencing intermittent light rain and drizzle, with the possibility of more precipitation in the next 24 hours, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The city is currently under a blanket of dark clouds, providing a pleasant respite from the usual heat.

The PMD predicts that Karachi will see overcast skies and strong winds throughout the day, with the current temperature at 28 degrees Celsius and a high of 32 degrees Celsius expected. The wind is blowing from the southwest at a speed of 7 kilometers per hour, with humidity levels reaching 88%.

While the air quality in Karachi is currently considered good, the city ranks 28th on the list of the world’s most polluted cities and fourth in Pakistan. The concentration of particulate matter in the air is currently at 65 micrograms per cubic meter.

Sindh on High Alert

The PMD has issued a warning for heavy rainfall across Sindh over the next 72 hours, with a potential flood risk in certain districts. A strong monsoon system is currently impacting the north-central, eastern, and northeastern regions of Balochistan.

The PMD expects intermittent rain and thunderstorms in the following districts: Ghotki, Sukkur, Khairpur, Kashmore, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Larkana, Qambar, Shahdadkot, Nowshera Feroze, Shaheed Benazir Abad, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Sanghar, Jamshoro, and Dadu.

The monsoon system is expected to persist until August 19th. The districts of Tharparkar, Thatta, Badin, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Tando Muhammad Khan, Kandhkot, and Amari, Sajawal are also expected to experience thunderstorms until August 19th, with the possibility of strong winds in Karachi.

The PMD has warned residents about the potential dangers associated with heavy rain, strong winds, and lightning, including damage to roofs, walls, power poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels.

Farmers have been advised to take precautions and plan their activities accordingly, while authorities have been put on high alert to manage any potential emergencies.

Balochistan Faces Rain and Wind

The PMD predicts strong winds, thunderstorms, and heavy rain in several areas of Balochistan, including Quetta, Khuzdar, Kalat, Zhob, Barkhan, Sibi, Turbat, Nokundi, Dalbandin, Gwadar, and Jeewani.

Punjab Sees Sunshine and Clouds

The city of Lahore and other parts of Punjab are expected to experience a mix of sunshine and clouds.

The minimum temperature in Lahore is expected to be 29 degrees Celsius, with a high of 34 degrees Celsius.

The current temperature in Lahore is 30 degrees Celsius, with wind speeds at 3 kilometers per hour and humidity levels reaching 90%. The PMD predicts a low chance of rain in Lahore today.
