US preparing for Iran attack in Middle East as soon as ‘this week’

The US is also supporting Israel's defense efforts

The US is on high alert for possible attacks by Iran or its proxies in the Middle East, potentially as early as this week, according to White House national security spokesperson John Kirby. This heightened state of readiness comes in response to concerns over Iranian retaliation for the recent assassination of a Hamas leader in Tehran.

Kirby confirmed that the US has increased its military presence in the region, echoing Israel’s concerns about the potential timing of an attack. He emphasized the need to be prepared for “significant” attacks.

The US is also supporting Israel’s defense efforts, pledging to help them defend themselves against any potential onslaught.

The Pentagon has responded by deploying a guided missile submarine and accelerating the deployment of the Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group to the Middle East.

However, the carrier strike group is currently in the South China Sea and is expected to take over a week to reach the region.

The escalating tensions have sent oil prices soaring, with a 3% jump on Monday, marking the fifth consecutive day of increases. This surge reflects concerns about a potential regional conflict that could disrupt global oil supplies.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces continue their operations near Khan Younis in Gaza. International efforts are underway to broker a ceasefire in Gaza and prevent a wider regional conflict involving Iran and its proxies.
