German tourist robbed at gunpoint near Lahore airport
A German cyclist was robbed at gunpoint near Lahore airport on Saturday. He was allegedly assaulted by robbers who were on a motorcycle.
Florian Berg had set up his tent on a piece of meadow near the street when two unidentified men ambushed him.
The incident occurred around 1:30 am on Saturday morning, according to the FIR filed at the North Cantonment police station. The complaint was registered under Section 382 (theft after preparation made for causing death, hurt or restraint in order to the committing of the theft) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The suspects rummaged through 27-year-old tourist’s bag despite his claims that he had no cash on him. When the German tourist tried to escape, the robbers caught up with him and stole his belongings, including a camera, AirPods, mobile phone, power bank, and Rs5,000 in cash.
The FIR further states that the suspects also physically assaulted Berg during the ordeal. The daring robbery took place just a stone’s throw away from the North Cantonment police station, raising questions about the security measures in the area.
Local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and are scouring the area for the two suspects who managed to flee the scene after the robbery. Police have assured that they will leave no stone unturned to apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice.
Lahore’s Deputy Inspector General of Police Faisal Kamran has constituted special teams to probe the matter and apprehend the suspects.
The police are currently monitoring the safe city surveillance cameras in the area in an effort to identify the robbers. The injured tourist has been provided medical assistance at the Punjab Rangers Teaching Hospital.
DIG Kamran has assured that the suspects would be arrested soon and all the stolen valuables belonging to the German cyclist would be recovered.
