US working with partners to counter terror breeding grounds in Afghanistan, State Dept says

Patel says US will continue to work with partners in the region

The US State Department has expressed its concern over the growing threat of terrorist groups in Afghanistan, particularly ISIS, and has pledged to work with allies to prevent Afghanistan from becoming a launching pad for future attacks.

During a press briefing in Washington, Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel addressed a UN report highlighting the rise of terrorist organizations in Afghanistan.

He emphasized the US’s support for counterterrorism efforts in the region, stating that they are working to ensure Afghanistan does not become a breeding ground for terrorist attacks.

“ISIS is a global terrorist network with the intent and capability to carry out attacks around the world,” Patel said. He also confirmed that the US is cooperating with partners and allies on counterterrorism efforts in Afghanistan.

Regarding recent attacks on Pakistani forces originating from Afghanistan, Patel reiterated the US’s commitment to working with its partners in the region.

He also expressed concern about the attempted attack on Indian politician Gurpatwant Singh Pannu and is awaiting a response from the Indian government regarding the alleged involvement of government officials in the incident.
