Passport operations affected due to lack of ink
The Passport and Immigration Office in Pakistan is facing a new crisis: a shortage of ink. This comes on the heels of the recent lamination paper shortage, which has already caused delays in passport printing.
Sources within the office report that the lack of ink will further hinder the printing of both regular and expedited passports. The office is unable to print passports due to the combined shortage of ink and lamination paper.
The situation is being attributed to mismanagement and incompetence within the Passport and Immigration Office. Sources allege that the current Director General is attempting to transform the Directorate into an authority, granting them complete control over the budget and operations.
This move, according to sources, is motivated by a desire to gain autonomy, similar to the Principal Accounting Officer in various ministries and divisions.
The Directorate has reportedly spent approximately 60 million rupees on renovations while neglecting the procurement of essential materials like ink and lamination paper.
The lack of foresight and prioritization has led to the current crisis, leaving many citizens stranded without passports.
