Shaheen Afridi to face action for ‘misconduct’ in World Cup: sources

Other players could face action as well

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to take action against national fast bowler Shaheen Afridi for alleged misconduct. Sources suggest that Afridi is likely to be excluded from the upcoming crucial series against Bangladesh.

The PCB is also reportedly considering disciplinary action against two to three other players, according to sources.

Domestic performers are expected to be given opportunities in the Bangladesh series, replacing players facing disciplinary action.

The PCB’s decision comes amidst widespread upheaval following the team’s disappointing performance at the T20 World Cup.

During meetings with PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, coaches accused Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq of favoring certain players and claimed that these favored players did not perform well.

It was revealed to Naqvi that Afridi had displayed poor behavior towards the team management and coaches during the World Cup, with no action being taken by the management. An investigation is underway to determine why no action was taken against Afridi.

Coaches also informed the Chairman that certain players had formed factions within the team, and that some players were considered unprofessional.

While Shaheen Afridi remains silent on the matter, Wahab Riaz responded to the accusations on X, stating that he disagrees with the allegations. Riaz denied putting pressure on the selection committee to favor certain players.

A former selector questioned how one vote could influence the opinions of six members of the selection committee.

On Wednesday, the PCB issued a brief statement announcing the removal of Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq from the selection committees for both men’s and women’s teams.

Wahab Riaz has also been relieved of his duties as team senior manager, while team manager Mansoor Rana has also been removed from his position.
