Internet personality Sahil Adeem drew flak on social media for saying that “95 per cent of the women in Pakistan were ignorant”.

“Take a sample of 100 women, 95 out of them will be ignorant not knowing anything. This is reality,” he said while appearing on Samaa Digital show Makalma with Khalilur Rehman Qamar hosted by Ayesha Jahanzeb.

“These women have awareness about dance, cooking, and makeup but they have no awareness of Islam,” he said and wondered how mosques would mobilise them.

They discussed human rights and women’s rights on the show with a focus on the use of social media to highlight such two topics.

Adeem was responding to a query related to mobilising mosques for women’s rights. In his response, he also said: This has to be remembered, take a sample of 100 people from Pakistan and conduct a basic knowledge test, 25 men out of the 100 will be ignorant, 50 will be 50-50 and 25 will be eloquent.“

There was a question and answer session at the end where a participant asked the internet personality to apologise for his anti-women comments. A clip of his argument with the participant went viral on social media.

“Today, you got to know about taghut, which is the biggest sin in Islam,” he said. But the woman reminded him that the topic of discussion was women’s rights, not the sins in Islam.

When the participant asked him to apologise for his choice of words, Adeem claimed that it was bound in Islam to call an ignorant person ignorant. He reiterated with his claims and advised her to take a sample and conduct the test.

“I ask for forgiveness from him because my daughter [while referring to the woman who asked the question] is ignorant. This is my fault that my daughter is ignorant,” he said and the woman countered that he was changing the topic.

The viral clip shows writer Qamar asking the host to take the mike back from the woman for confronting Adeem.

While reacting to the video, journalist Absa Komal said: “It makes me sick to see a huge fan following for both of these men & their pathetic mindsets. Khalil ur Rehman has laid many eggs, if you notice on social media, young guys praise & copy him.”

She went on to add that Qamar’s identity revolved around writing “sick drama scripts” mostly based on his low-life, and “belittling” women.

Actor Mira Sethi praised the woman in the crowd to demand an apology from Adeem.

“The courage it takes to say this in Pakistan – Asba ko salaam,” she said.

In reaction to the video, Adeem shrugged off the comments against him and said that he was open to such statements on social media.

“O Allah, thank you, you considered it possible that after the liberals and the PML-N, now the livelihood of PTI workers is also with my pictures and name,” he said.
