Lahore High Court Chief Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad has publicly condemned interference in judicial matters by “institutions,” stating that he has received numerous complaints and letters, both written and verbal, alleging such interference.

Addressing an event in Rawalpindi, Justice Ahmad expressed confidence that this interference will soon end, citing both his faith and personal experience as evidence. He urged judges to face such pressure with bravery and courage, believing that justice will ultimately prevail.

The Chief Justice highlighted the specific case of a Sargodha Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) judge who had alleged interference by the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). He quoted the judge as saying that he was unafraid of the alleged incidents and was prepared to make any sacrifice to uphold justice.

Addressing his fellow judges, Justice Ahmad encouraged them to stand firm against any attempts at blackmail or intimidation, emphasizing the importance of resisting pressure and upholding their duty to justice.

He praised former LHC Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry for his courage in challenging a military dictator, recalling the lawyers’ movement that led to his reinstatement. Justice Ahmad highlighted the significance of this movement in securing a long period of civilian rule and permanently closing the door on martial law.

The Chief Justice urged lawmakers to play their role in improving the country, reminding them that their positions are temporary and that they have a responsibility to serve the nation.
