Minor earthquake strikes UAE
The UAE experienced a relatively minor, but rare, earthquake with a magnitude of 1.9.
According to the UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), this seismic event was “slightly felt by residents” in the local area.
The earthquake’s epicenter was located in Al Halah, an area within the Emirate of Fujairah, near the Wadi Tayyibah region. The quake struck at 9:57 pm UAE time, originating from a depth of 5 kilometers underground on Friday.
The earthquake took place “without any effect UAE”, the NCM said.
Seismology experts have assured residents that there is no need for them to be concerned about the possibility of earthquakes in the region.
“The UAE has low to moderate seismicity; hence we are safe. We are not on the active seismic belt. We have frequent tremors ranging from two to three in a year,” an NCM official told Khaleej Times in a previous report.
