NDMA warns against unnecessary travel as rains predicted to continue

National Disaster Management Authority has issued a warning to the public to refrain from travelling as the country heads towards another round of rains.

“The expected rain this week may cause flash floods and landslides in the low-lying and mountainous areas,” NDMA said.

“People should avoid unnecessary travel to dangerous areas and avoid crossing rivers and streams.”

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has already issued an advisory that multiple parts of the country could receive rain from April 16 to 22.

Noushki, Mastung, Jhal Magsi, Naseerabad, Sibbi, Kohlu, Dera Bugti, Barkhan, Loralai, Harnai, Qilla Saifullah, Mastung, Ziarat, Shirani, Zhob, Musa Khel and Barkhan in Balochistan can receive rains till April 19. However, the rain could be heavier in Gwadar, Kech, Awaran, Chagi, Kharan, Awaran, Lasbella, Khuzdar and Kalat.

Meanwhile, rain is also expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner and Malakand, Waziristan, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan and Kurram in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa till April 21. The higher altitude areas could receive snow and multiple areas can receive hailstorm as well.

There is a high possibility of snowfall in Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche and Shigar in Gilgit Baltistan and Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur in Kashmir till April 22.

Multiple districts of Punjab including Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Pakpattan and Sahiwal can also receive rain.
