Trump’s video clip on the release of Imran Khan debunked

American newspaper find the clip to be an altered version of Trump's 2017 interview

A video clip recently surfaced on social media showing the former US president Donald Trump saying he would get Imran Khan out of jail if he wins the 2024 elections.

However, an American newspaper has now fact checked it and ruled that the clip is an altered version of Trump’s 2017 interview with NBC.

On March 24, the video clip was posted on the social media platform Facebook, focusing on Trump’s support for Khan.

There are indications that many people believed it to be authentic. For example, PTI leaders in the Punjab Assembly said earlier this week that Trump has promised to get Imran Khan released from jail.

“Hello, my Pakistani-American friends. I promise that if I win, I will try my best to get Imran Khan out of jail as soon as possible. He is my friend; I love him, and I will support him to take over the government again,” Trump appears to say in the clip.

The US newspaper USA Today fact-checked the video, stating that it was edited.

The video clip was taken from Trump’s 2017 interview with NBC News anchor Lester Holt.

The president’s dress and the background in the video were conformed to the 2017 interview.

In the original interview, the former US President was referring to the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 elections.

The altered video’s lip movement did not match the speaker, as the audio was out of sync.
