Urdle, the Urdu version of popular word game Wordle, breathed its last on March 6 of this year after over two years in action. However, people who miss playing the game will be glad to know that another version is already up on the internet.

The new game, named Char Harf (four letters), can be played at charharf.chaoticity.com.

Although, the basics of the game remain the same – you have to guess a four letter words in successive tries as the game slowly tells you how much you are getting right – there are some crucial differences.

However, instead of highlighting the correctly guessed letters on the keyboard, it tells you how many correct letters are in each attempt.

The correct letters are identified by thumbs up while letters that are correct but in the wrong spot are marked by a ‘fingers crossed’ sign.

The attempted letters have been blurred out from the screenshot.

Since, the game is more complicated than Urdle, it gives you more tries than the seven in the old game.

The maximum limit of the attempts is not marked. The Aaj Digital team took 23 lazy turns in getting the word right on March 15. (We promise this was a demonstration of the game’s limits, not of our ineptitude in Urdu.)

Char Harf has been developed by Chaoticity, the same blog behind Urdle. The blog is run by by Awais Athar, who can be contacted on X. He has also invited feedback for his game.

Urdle went out of action at the same time as hundreds of Wordle clones were taken down after the New York Times threatened copyright claims under the Digital Millenium Copyright Act.
