Mohsin Naqvi promises selection on merit in meeting with players
Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has told players that selections in the team will now take place on merit in the national cricket team.
Speaking to players from the national team in Islamabad on Tuesday, Naqvi said that he wanted politics in the team to end and for the eleven players to play together. Chief Selector Wahab Riaz and COO Salman Naseer were also present in the session.
However, he also said that he did not wish to criticise anyone as everyone’s goal was winning cricket matches for the country. He alsso said that selections cannot be made on anyone’s whims.
The chairman added that quality players should not have to wait for an opportunity to play cricket for Pakistan. He went on to say that he stood with high performing players.
Naqvi also said that stadiums and practice facilities will be upgraded across the country. He also said that five-star hotels are being built near stadiums in Rawalpindi and Lahore for convenience.
The chairman also said that improvements could be made in the player’s contracts. However, he said that the players’ first priority should be to serve the country and money should always be secondary.
