Canada extends measures for Iranian residents, citizens
Canada has announced an extension of special measures for Iranian temporary residents as well as for its citizens and permanent residents residing in the West Asian country, Visa Guide reported.
It follows the death of Mahsa Amini and the subsequent crackdown on dissent. The new decision will be in effect until February 28, 2025.
A statement from the government said that Canada has reaffirmed its commitment to providing assistance and protection to those in need amid growing concerns for the safety and well-being of individuals affected by the unrest in Iran The government provides significant privileges to Iranian nationals residing in Canada under temporary resident status.
Under this, Iranian nationals with valid temporary resident status in Canada are authorised to pursue their academic, professional, and family endeavours without undue hindrance. They are allowed to extend their status free of charge, enabling them to continue their studies, work, or visit family members without problems.
