James Gunn, the CEO of DC Studios, has announced that the title of the new Superman movie would simply be called Superman, as he drops legacy from it.

“When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Making our way to you July 2025,” he said in an Instagram post.

Warner Bros has marked July 11, 2025, as the date for the film. It will be the first solo release for the comic character since Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, which starred Henry Cavill, released in 2013.

Gunn also shared an image of the Superman logo from the film in his post. The snow-dusting on the logo suggests a scene set in The Fortress of Solitude, Superman’s arctic fortress.

His post said that the filmmakers started principal photography on February, the Superman’s birthday.

David Corenswet is playing the eponymous superhero opposite Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Nicholas Hoult is taking on the role of Superman’s villain Lex Luthor while the cast also includes Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Nathan Fillon (Guy Gardner), Isabela Mercad (Hawkgirl) and more.

“I completely relate to Superman because he’s everything I am,” Gunn told The Hollywood Reporter last year. “He’s somebody who is an outsider who feels like an alien, but also the ultimate insider, because he’s fucking Superman. And that’s kind of like what I feel like.”
