Another Lahore traffic warden has earned a PhD degree, joining the list of several traffic police officers completing their doctorate during their service.

According to local media reports, Habibur Rehman earned a PhD degree in South Asian Studies from the Punjab University. His thesis was on Pakistan-China relations.

Lahore City Traffic Officer Ammara Athar congratulated Rehman and announced her decision to award him a certificate of appreciation.

“The nation salutes such hard-working people. It is commendable that wardens despite limited resources and tough jobs have continued their education,” she said.

The CTO went on to add that 150 wardens hold MPhil degrees and 10 have PhD – out of the total 3,100 wardens. She added that 80% of wardens have completed their master’s in different subjects.

Forensic science, microbiology, and English literature are the subjects in which they have completed their higher education.

It merits here to mention that a warden holding an MPhil degree is given a monthly allowance of Rs5,000 while a PhD holding warden is given a Rs10,000 allowance.

Last year, Punjab Inspector General of Police Usman Anwar congratulated warden Dr Muhammad Abid Nazir on the completion of his PhD degree during service.

He completed his Masters in Criminology and Security Studies before earning his PhD in International Relations from Punjab University. Before that, Dr Abid completed his MPhil in Peace and Conflict Studies at NDU. Dr. Abid Nazir also holds an LLB degree.
