The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has predicted a new wave of rain/snowfall in the province from February 25 to 27.

The authority issued an alert to all relevant departments regarding the likely occurrence of land sliding in upper areas owing to expected intermittent snowfall and rain.

The advisory came as winter tourism is at its peak in the upper areas of KP. Tourists arrived in the valleys of Galiyat, Kaghan, Swat, and Malam Jabba as KP weather turned chilly.

Several roads and bypasses in the northern areas including Gilgit Baltistan and Chitral of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were blocked as heavy snow blanketed vast lands in the upper areas on February 19.

Shandur Pass in the Ghizer district of Gilgit Baltistan received more than two feet of snow in the last 24 hours as the weather turned chilly.

PDMA Director General Imran Qureshi on February 21 issued a warning to all departments in the wake of expected heavy rainfall, storms, and more snowfall as people flock to tourist spots in Murree, Galyat, and surrounding areas in the last week of February.

Qureshi urged tourists to consider weather conditions while planning a trip to these areas.
