Pakistan is set to participate in the meeting of the Special Envoys on Afghanistan scheduled for February 18 and 19 in Doha, Qatar.

“Ambassador Asif Durrani, Pakistan’s Special Representative on Afghanistan, will lead the Pakistan delegation at the Meeting of the Special Envoys on Afghanistan to be held on 18-19 February 2024 in Doha,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Friday.

The meeting of the special envoys is being convened by the UN Secretary-General António Guterres to discuss approaches for international engagement with Afghanistan.

According to MoFA, Pakistan’s participation in the meeting is part of the country’s efforts to engage with the international community, including the United Nations to strengthen the efforts for lasting peace and prosperity in Afghanistan.

It is pertinent to mention that JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman visited Afghanistan last month where he also held a meeting with Taliban supreme leader Haibatullah Akhundzada.

“The main purpose of the visit was to solve the problems through mutual understanding,” he told Afghanistan’s Mili TV, a Pashto language news channel. He thanked the Taliban chief for the welcoming gesture.
