SC hints at outlawing klashinkovs
The Supreme Court of Pakistan hinted at a ban on klashinkov licenses in the country, adding the guns had ‘destroyed’ the country.
A three-member bench led by Justice Isa took up a bail hearing on Wednesday which involved weapons being stolen from a house. The bench also included Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Musarrat Hilali.
The chief justice remarked that the police had not even bothered to ask the owner of the stolen weapons if he had licenses for them.
He went on to say that ‘klashinkov culture’ had destroyed Pakistan and it would have to be ended.
The bench asked for details of all licenses issued for illegal bore weapons in the country. Chiding the inspector general for handing out ‘papers’ without due dilligence, Justice Isa also hinted that all klashinkov licenses could be cancelled.
The CJP went on to add that even he had been offered a license for a klashinkov.
Justice Isa also said that klashinkovs can be seen openly in markets and schools and said that if someone was keeping weapons out of fear, then they should stay in their houses.
