Snowfall blanketed upper areas of Chitral, Battagram and Upper Dir in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday, causing an interruption in the activities in the mountainous region.

Snowfall was reported in Lowari Tunnel, Lowari Top, Doog Dara, Garam Chashma, and Madaklasht.

“The northern half of the country comprising of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and northern Punjab are expected to receive slightly above normal rainfall during the forecast month,” the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s Outlook for December said.

Temperatures plummeted to zero degrees Celsius in Chitral while -1 degrees Celsius in Upper Dir.

Meanwhile, smog engulfed many parts of Punjab and KP, prompting the authorities to block different sections of national highways and motorways.

The highway police have urged people to avoid unnecessary traveling during fog and advised them to follow instructions to avoid any untoward incident.
