IHC delists case against Bajwa and Faiz

The case had been fixed for November 28

The Islamabad High Court has delisted a case asking for action against former Army Chief General (r) Qamar Javed Bajwa and former DG ISI Lt General (r) Faiz Hameed just before it was about to be heard.

According to a report by BBC Urdu, the matter had been fixed for hearing on November 28 (Tuesday) but was abruptly removed from the cause list. Chief Justice Aamer Farooq was supposed to hear the case.

The case was registered by a citizen named Atif Ali who had asked the court to order the Federal Investigation Agency to take action against the two retired officers for violating rules by giving interviews that ‘misrepresented facts’.

The petition accuses the two generals of committing criminal acts under the garb for freedom of expression. The petition says that the Bajwa and Faiz’s interviews brought disrepute to the country and the army.

In the previous hearing on October 9, the court had issued notices to Bajwa and Faiz as well as Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority and Press Association of Pakistan as well as two journalists, Shahid Maitla and Javed Chaudhry, to whom the interviews were given.

General (r) Bajwa served as the army chief from 2016 to 2022. Lieutenant General (r) Faiz Hameed also retired in 2022 after the appointment of the new army chief. He served as the DG Inter-Services Intelligence from 2019 to 2021.
