Australian cricketer Mitchell Marsh has booked in India after he was spotted placing his foot on the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023 trophy following his team’s victory over India on November 19.

The First Information Report (FIR) against Marsh was filed on November 24 in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh.

The FIR was registered on the complaint of an activist Pandit Keshav, alleging that Marsh’s conduct of lowering his legs on the World Cup trophy had hurt the feelings of Indian cricket team supporters which led the complainant to file a complaint.

In addition, Pandit Keshav sent Prime Minister Narendra Modi a copy of the complaint, arguing that the Australian player shouldn’t be permitted to play cricket in India.

Social media users harshly attacked Marsh for his actions, saying that he was disrespecting the game and the trophy.

Mohammed Shami who was positioned as a higher wicket-taker with 24 in the ICC World Cup 2023, responded to Marsh’s antics by saying he was extremely unhappy with the gesture.
