Iran deports 400,000 Afghan refugees
An operation to deport Afghan refugees is also underway in Iran, with almost 400,000 refugees already having returned across the border.
Iran’s government reportedly took the decision to send back the refugees over their alleged involvement in terrorism.
The decision to send back refugees was taken in August and since then around 400,000 refugees have already returned to Afghanistan.
The Iranian government has also closed down its borders to prevent entry of more refugees. Officials claim that the border was used for smuggling narcotics.
Thousands of Afghan citizens had fled to Iran after the fall of Kabul of whom a majority remained undocumented.
The measures come as hundreds of thousands of refugees were sent back from Pakistan.
