Political parties trying to appease establishment to get electables: Mustafa Khokhar

Former Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar had said that all political parties are attempting to appease the establishment to get electables in the upcoming elections.

“It is now only power politics. It is not in their priorities to bring reforms in the country and change people’s lives,” he told Asma Shirazi on Faisla Aap Ka.

Responding to a question about Balochistan politicians joining PML-N, he said that it was saddening to see political parties, lecturing others on democracy, doing these kinds of things behind closed doors.

“I, along with other PPP leaders objected to taking votes from the Balochistan National Party in the past saying that we have contested elections against them. If we do this, it will damage our party’s politics. PML-N also strongly objected to the decision to take votes from BAP,” he added.

It is unfortunate that Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz are now giving excuses to prove BAP’s importance in politics, Khokhar said.

He was in disagreement with the view that electables were an essential part of the country’s politics, saying that they are important to parties due to the lack of vision and principled politics.

Former PTI leader Faisal Vawda held PTI Chief Imran Khan responsible for the current political atmosphere of the country, saying that the party broke the two-party system but his stubbornness made way for PML-N and PTI’s comeback.

“He went against the Army and with the breaking of his party, the two-party system came back in the country,” he added.

On politicians joining PML-N, Vawda said that it was the judiciary whose role was questionable in the country’s politics and not the establishment.

“People say those holding powers are backing the political party whenever something like this happens. Before defaming the Army, we have to be clear that all political leaders including Imran Khan and Nawaz Sharif are given certificates and sentences by the courts,” he added.

PML-N’s Khurram Dastgir said that his party taking in electables was not an ideal situation.

However, he said that no party in the country was fair as PTI and PPP in the past casted votes in favour of Sadiq Sanjrani for the chairman of the Senate.

“We are faced with a difficult situation to create a way for democracy. Let me remind you what kind of role PPP had in the creation of BAP. Nobody can claim to be fair these days,” he added.
