A district and sessions court in Lahore on Wednesday approved bail for PTI activist Khadijah Shah in the case of provocative tweets.

Additional Sessions Judge Muhammad Nawaz announced a reserved verdict in the Federal Investigation Agency case, in which the court granted bail to Shah on Rs100,000 surety bond.

The case was registered against the PTI activist by the FIA Lahore.

The fashion designer was arrested two weeks after violent protests broke out across Pakistan immediately after Imran Khan’s arrest on May 9 in the Toshakhana case in Islamabad.

She is accused of being part of the protests in Lahore and of calling more people to join them.

A few days after her arrest, a video showing Shah apologising for her participation in the protest and pledging support to the armed forces had emerged on social media.

Earlier today, President Arif Alvi wrote to Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar regarding PTI’s concerns on the increasing cases of enforced disappearances of individuals with known political affiliation.

In his letter to PM Kakar, he said that such instances became a matter of concern when such actions resulted in the conversion of political associations or loyalties.

He added that the issue became sensitive when female political workers were also subjected to prolonged detentions or frequent rearrests after court relief.
