Kakar assures ECP of providing support for elections

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar has assured Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja of providing all kinds of support for transparent general elections, which are due on February 8.

In a statement, he said that the government would ensure provision of all necessary resources.

He said during a meeting with the CEC who called on him in Islamabad. CEC Raja briefed the premier on the preparations of the commission regarding the conduct of general elections.

Raja invited Kakar to visit the electoral authority office to review the preparations for the general elections.

Last week, CEC Raja and President Arif Alvi unanimously agreed to hold general elections in the country on February 8, 2024 following the Supreme Court’s ultimatum to decide the polls date by the next hearing of the case related to the election delay.

Earlier in the day, the United States administration said that it was ‘focused’ on making sure fair elections take place in the Pakistan.

“Our focus continues to be on ensuring and supporting that there are free and fair elections that are conducted in a way for the benefit of the Pakistani people,” US State Department’s Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel said during a press briefing on November 6.

He added that it was up to the people of Pakistan to decide when asked about many analysts in Pakistan doubts that elections would happen without former prime minister Imran Khan.
