Mahira Khan lends support to Afghan refugees in Pakistan

'I appeal to my nation to continue to support those who need it,' says Mahira

Actress and model Mahira Khan appealed to the nation to continue their help and support for Afghan brothers and sisters as at the time of repatriation they need kindness.

Khan, who has been a Goodwill Ambassador to UNHR since 2019 took to her Instagram handle to deliver her message to all of Pakistan and wrote: “There are people who are still in need of our kindness and compassion, who are at risk if they return.”

She shared some pictures as well in which she was wearing a waistcoat with the branding of the UNHCR logo.

“For over decades, we have provided safety to our Afghan brothers and sisters in need.”

She added: “I appeal to my nation to continue to support those who need it.”

Expressing the sympathy towards undocumented immigrants repatriated to their countries she said: “No one leaves their home behind by choice.”

She also conveyed gladness towards Pakistan’s four decades of hospitality.

Mahira’s statement came after the ending deadline to expel Afghans and other illegal immigrants to their countries and illegal Afghan immigrants continue to leave the country as authorities continue to arrest and move them to holding centres.

Authorities said that a total of 6,584 refugees left Pakistan via the Torkham border on Sunday. The number included 892 families comprising 1,878 men, 1,624 women and 3,082 children.

Authorities said that a total of over 188,000 Afghan refugees have so far left the country since the government first issued an ultimatum for their return on September 17.
