SJC serves show cause notice to Justice Mazahir Ali Naqvi
The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) on Friday issued a show cause notice to Supreme Court’s Justice Mazahir Ali Naqvi after the Pakistan Bar Council lodged a complaint against him citing misconduct.
The meeting of the SJC was held in the Supreme Court under the chair of Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, in which the pending complaints against the judges were considered. The council served a show cause notice to Justice Naqvi and sought a response from him on November 10.
Advocate Mian Dawood had filed the complaint against Justice Naqvi in the judicial council which included charges of misconduct and illegal assets.
The complainant pleaded to remove Justice Naqvi from the office of the Supreme Court of Pakistan accusing him of involvement in the audio leaks and amassing money with frontmen.
Justice Sardar Tariq Masood and Justice Ijazul Ahsan attended the SJC meeting along with Lahore High Court Chief Justice Ameer Bhatti and Balochistan High Court Chief Justice Justice Naeem Akhtar Awan.
The registrar of the Supreme Court and the attorney general for Pakistan were also in attendance.
In April, Justice Isa and Justice Masood had written a judicial letter to Justice Bandial, the then CJP, to convene an SJC meeting to review these allegations.
In May, Justice Bandial referred the matter to Justice Tariq Masood for a legal opinion.
