Support poured in Pakistan skipper Babar Azam a day after his side was handed a historic defeat by Afghanistan in the World Cup.

Soon after the match concluded, fans took to social media bashing the leadership of Azam and his alleged defensive approach and lack of game awareness.

Several called for his removal from captaincy while blaming his lack of skills for Pakistan’s three consecutive losses at the World Cup. Former cricketer Shoaib Malik also urged the Pakistan skipper to step down from captaincy and focus on winning matches for Pakistan through his batting.

However, many took to X to reiterate their support for the skipper of Green Shirts.

A fan shared a quote from commentator Nasser Hussain about Azam while sharing Pakistan’s batting collapses after the Pakistani skipper was out.

“You won’t realise how good babar is until he is gone,” he wrote on X.

Haider, a commentator on X showed his unwavering support for the Pakistan skipper while sharing a clip from his post-match press conference.

“I will always support you no matter what,” he wrote.

Hassan Shahzad showed his support for Azam while sharing clips of the batter’s celebrations after hitting a ton. “Behind you skipper #BabarAzam,” he wrote.

Adv. Mian Omer said that the entire team was responsible for the poor performance of the Pakistan team in the World Cup.

“It is completely wrong to blame only #BabarAzam,” he wrote.

Ahtsham Altaf said that there were mistakes in Azam’s captaincy, however, he was not only to be blamed as the team consisted of 11 players.

“We all know there are some mistakes in his captaincy. But what are the other players doing? The team is the combination of 11 players not 1. So stop blaming Babar Azam,” he wrote.

Another commentator called Azam the pride of the nation.

“Huge huge respect for you Babar. You deserve everything. This will pass. #BabarAzam! Tough times teach us the best. Stay strong, you are always our pride,” he wrote.
