World Cup 2023: Sri Lanka opts to bat against Pakistan
Sri Lanka opted to bat against Pakistan in their World Cup 2023 clash after winning the toss in Hyderabad.
The match will start at 1:30pm Pakistan Standard Time.
Speaking after the toss, captain Babar Azam said Abdullah Shafique would replace out-of-form opener Fakhar Zaman who scored just 12 against the Netherlands.
Some cloud cover is expected in Hyderabad during the game, but no rain. The pitch should be conducive to big scores as New Zealand scored 322 against the Netherlands on the same pitch a day earlier, ESPNcricinfo reported.
Pakistan XI: Abdullah Shafique, Imam-ul-Haq, Babar Azam (c), Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Saud Shakeel, Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, Shadab Khan, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Afridi, and Haris Rauf.
Sri Lanka XI: Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis (wk), Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dasun Shanaka (c), Dunith Wellalage, Maheesh Theekshana, Matheesha Pathirana, and Dilshan Madushanka.
Pakistan won their first game against the Netherlands while Sri Lanka was defeated by South Africa in a high-scoring match in the edition.
The green shirts are yet to lose a single match against Sri Lanka at ODI World Cups, having won on each of the seven occasions they have gone up against each other.
