Two civilians killed as Afghan sentry open fire on Chaman border
Two civilians including a 12-year-old were killed when indiscriminate firing by an Afghan sentry targeted the civilians at an outbound checkpost on the Pak-Afghan border in Balochistan, deputy commissioner of Chaman said.
Pakistani forces exercised restrain and did not respond to the fire.
The bodies of the child and the elderly pedestrian were moved to the District Headquarters Hospital and were later handed over to their families, he added.
The deputy commissioner went on to add that the security forces were put on high alert, however, no exchange of fire happened between the forces.
A ceasefire is in place with border crossing open at the Friendship Gate, he said.
Pedestrian movement was halted briefly after the firing.
The officials said that the matter has been reported to higher authorities and will be taken up with the interim Afghan Government.
Three soldiers martyred
In a separate incident, two soldiers were martyred and three injured in Chagi Bazaar area when a vehicle of security forces hit an improvised explosive device (IED).
The vehicle caught fire and was burnt.
