Weddings have long been the epitome of happiness, loud music, traditional foods and vibrant colours. However, a noticeable trend has emerged in recent years that is transforming the landscape of these extravagant celebrations.

Recently, celebrity weddings have lost their vibrant and bold colours which have always been synonymous with glitz, glamour, and grandeur.

The noticeable shift came from Bollywood, the dream factory of India, where weddings of Bollywood celebrities that used to be extravagant affairs, are now losing colour.

The trend started with Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma’s wedding, where Virat and Anushka chose a contrasting colour combination of pink and pastel for their wedding. That dreamy wedding started a trend which is popular to date.

The pattern of having pastel colours for celebrity weddings was then followed by Sidharth-Kiara, Katrina-Vicky, Alia-Ranbir or Athiya Shetty and most recently we saw Parineeti-Raghav as well as Pakistan’s Mahira Khan, who embraced pastel tones and slipped into a beautiful white lehenga.

Her bridal attire featured a choli, lehenga skirt, dupatta, and a gorgeous long veil covering her head.

These weddings were once characterized by a riot of bold and bright colours, symbolizing joy and festivity. Now couples prefer elegance, influenced by Western aesthetics. There has been a departure from traditional colour palettes in favour of softer, pastel shades.

Pastel colours are often associated with serenity, tranquillity, and harmony. They are also often associated with understated luxury, which aligns with the evolving tastes of today’s brides.

But many people think otherwise.

An Instagram user, Zee Aly, who has over 300,000 followers, posted the video after Parineeti Chopra got married to AAP leader Raghav Chadha in Udaipur, claiming that they lack excitement or any variation.

In the video, Zee names a host of Paneer dishes as pictures of various weddings appear on-screen.

She said, “Let’s just do the same thing, unite together Bollywood. Uniqueness is boring for us.”

She then urged for red to be brought back.

Her reference to ’’Paneer “was made to imply that each wedding had a slight variation but was ultimately the same.

The video received over one million likes and many users agreed with Zee’s comments, with some claiming that other celebrities copied Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Some pointed out that Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra were the last Bollywood actresses to wear red for their wedding.

Colours can make us feel a certain way when we see it depending on whether we like that particular shade or not. We can also associate memories and thoughts with certain colours.

Colours always stand out, and also help us to differentiate I say: Let’s keep the colour.
