The ministry of law and justice issued a notification on Tuesday to conduct the hearing of the cipher case against PTI chief Imran Khan in Adiala jail.

According to the notification by the law ministry, the trial will be held inside the Adiala jail.

The notification adds that the law and justice division says it has ‘no objection’ to the trial being held in jail until security clearance is granted for Imran Khan. The request for the trial to be held in jail was made by Judge Abu Alhasnaat Zulqurnain.

Hearings in the case were previously held in Attock Jail when Khan was incarcerated there under the official secrets act. Khan was recently moved from Attock jail to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi on the orders of the Islamabad High Court.

Imran Khan has already moved the Islamabad High Court for bail in the cipher case. However, the Federal Investigation Agency has requested in-camera hearings as public proceedings could ‘damage’ diplomatice relations.

Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi are accused of divulging the contents of secret ‘cipher’ sent by Asad Majeed Khan, who was then ambassador to the United States.

Imran Khan was originally jailed after a conviction for corrupt practices in the Toshakhana case. However, he was not released despite getting bail as he was arrested in the cipher case from the jail.

Since his arrest on August 5 from Lahore, Imran Khan has not been brought to any court hearings despite continuing to face multiple cases.
