Eiffel Tower turns pink to begin breast cancer awareness campaign

Statistics say every ninth woman is prone to develop breast cancer in a lifetime

France’s Eiffel Tower was lit up in Pink on Sunday as a declaration of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaign.

The pink light lasted from 10pm until 00.45pm (local time). October has been designated as the “Pink Month” in a global effort to raise awareness of breast cancer.

Statistics reveal that more than 10 million women in Pakistan are at risk of breast cancer which positions the country with the highest rate of breast cancer incidence in the Asia region.

Every ninth woman is prone to develop breast cancer in her lifetime; annually 40,000 women die due to this ailment, and 90,000 new cases are reported.

However, breast cancer can be treated and cured, and if detected early, the survival rate can be increased to more than 90%.
