The Punjab government has sought technological support from China to improve production, interim provincial chief minister Mohsin Naqvi said on Sunday.

“We did not go to China to beg for something. We have talked about bringing technology from there,” he said in response to a reporter’s query in Lahore. “And they expressed their support for us. We talked about technology in irrigation, agriculture, livestock, dairy, PHA, and IT.”

Naqvi was in China on a week-long trip where he visited different cities and met with Chinese officials. He had discussions on bilateral ties with them.

“There was a senior delegation of ours there, so hopefully in the coming days you will see its impact,” he said and reiterated that the interim government only sought technological support from China.

When asked, Naqvi said that a meeting of the government was scheduled on the pink eye infection where all the health officials would be present.

“This [pink eye infection] has not just spread in Punjab, but in the whole of Pakistan,” he said and added that as per reports every fourth person was infected.

Lahore has reported a surge in eye infection cases during the rainy season, and dozens of cases of conjunctivitis or pink eyes were being reported daily.

In order to fight the infection, the Health Department has advised citizens to follow precautionary measures.

Conjunctivitis, commonly known as pink eye disease, is the swelling of the conjunctiva (the thin layer that lines the white part of the eye and the inside of the eyelid) and/or eyelids, according to the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention in the US.

Increased tear production, feeling like a foreign body is in the eye(s) or an urge to rub the eye(s), itching, irritation, and/or burning, discharge (pus or mucus), and crusting of eyelids or lashes, especially in the morning are the typical symptoms.

The chief minister added that the government would release SOPs and decisions after the meeting.

While responding to a query, Naqvi replied that the government needed a large amount of funds to overhaul the drainage system in the province where rainwater entered many hospitals and houses in recent rain.
