A Higher Education Commission committee has said that it found no evidence of organised activity behind sexual harassment or obscene videos in Bahwalpur’s Islamia University, which made headlines after its chief security officer and registrar were arrested in July.

The committee submitted its report after completing an investigation on Thursday and said that the whole matter had been exaggerated on social media.

The report also said that there was no organised sale of ice and other drugs on the campus as had been reported earlier.

However, the report added that two to three officers were involved in illegal activities on an individual level. The inquiry committee recommended strict action against the officers.

The inquiry committee met with officers from multiple departments of the university and also questioned the vice-chancellor in the course of the investigation.

The committee also found irregularities in academic and administrative matters and recommended action as well.

The HEC had formed its own committee to investigate the reports of the scandal in the university on July 28.

Three officials of IUB — Treasurer Professor Abu Bakar, Chief Security Officers Major (retd) Ijaz Akram, and Transport Incharge Mohammad Altaf – were arrested between July 21 and July 22. All three of them have been accused of possessing drugs. Additionally, Abu Bakar and Ijaz Akram also face the allegation of possessing obscene videos and photos of women.

Reports said that the officials had misused their position to help foster the illegal activities on campus.
