After electricity, gas price hike on the card in Pakistan
After a hike in electricity prices, the citizens are likely to face another burden as the authorities are planning to increase the gas price by 60% in an attempt to reduce the circular debt in the gas sector.
Sources said that the plan to increase gas prices will be presented to the interim federal cabinet by the petroleum division and the cabinet will take the final decision. The likely increase in the gas tariff will be applied to consumers across the board.
Meanwhile, the authorities are expected to further increase the electricity prices despite countrywide protests by the citizens against their exorbitant bill amounts. A hike of Rs2.07 per unit is on the cards, sources said.
The amount will be collected under the fuel price adjustment and an additional burden of Rs35 billion will be put on the consumers.
The power consumers have been protesting for days against the overbilling and increased taxes. The citizens protested in several cities in the country while some burned their bills and refused to pay them.
