Human rights lawyer Imaan Mazari was re-arrested by the Islamabad police on Monday after an anti-terrorism court in Islamabad approved her post-arrest bail petition in a sedition case.

She was arrested moments after she was released from the Adiala Jail. Aaj News correspondent said that the police posted outside the jail when the human rights activist was granted bail.

Later, the Islamabad police confirmed the development. They said that a case was registered against the human rights lawyer at Bara Kahu police station. The complaint was registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Earlier in the day, ATC judge Abulhasnaat Zulqarnain heard the bail application of Imaan. Her mother Shireen Mazari with the legal team appeared in the court.

On the court directives, the script of Imaan’s speech from a political rally was read out in the court.

The prosecutor opposed the bail plea of the human rights activist, contending that so far the report on the USB was not received. He added that the forensic test of the speech has to be conducted.

The court after completion of the arguments approved the bail application of Imaan against the surety bonds worth Rs30,000.

It merits here to mention that the post-arrest bail application of Imaan was due on August 28. Saturday’s hearing was adjourned without proceedings.

Imaan, daughter of former human rights minister Shireen Mazari, was arrested on August 20 after the activist posted on social media platform X that unidentified people were breaking into her home. PTM MNA Ali Wazir was also arrested.

The development had come after her speech at a political rally in Islamabad.

On August 22, an Islamabad ATC granted bail to Imaan in a rioting and dacoity.

Later, the Islamabad ATC sent Imaan to Adiala Jail on a 14-day judicial remand in a sedition case related to the controversial speech against the state institutions.

Both Imaan and Ali Wazir were booked on the charges of sedition, preventing government officials from carrying out their duties and damaging public property.
