Pakistan tops ICC one-day ranking after whitewashing Afghanistan

Pakistan claimed the first spot in the International Cricket Council ODI ranking after defeating Afghanistan by 59 runs in the final match of the three-match ODI series in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The green team is now topping the list with 2,725 points and a rating of 118 on the leaderboard. They are followed by Australia which has 2,714 points. India ranks third in the latest ranking of the ICC.

In the third and final game of the series, Pakistani bowlers sent the Afghan batting lineup to the pavilion on 209 in 48.4 overs. They were set a target of 269 runs in 50 overs by Pakistan.

Pakistan’s vice-captain Shadab Khan was the leading wicket-taker with figures of 3 for 42 in 10 overs. Mohammad Nawaz, Faheem Ashraf and Shaheen Afridi claimed two wickets each.

Batting first, skipper Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan scored fifties. Both batters added 110 runs to the total. After a mini-collapse, Agha Salman and Mohammad Nawaz cameos followed which helped Pakistan reach 268 for the loss of eight wickets.

Pakistan will enter the Asia Cup which begins later this month as the top ODI team. They will then compete in the ODI World Cup scheduled to be held in India in October-November.

Pakistan is ranked fourth and sixth in T20Is and Tests, respectively.
