Shehryar Afridi, Shandana Gulzar finally released after IHC passes written order
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders Shehryar Afridi and Shandana Gulzar were released from the Islamabad High Court after written orders were issued.
The two politicians spent hours in the court waiting in the court after the court first issued their release.
The order said that Sheheryar Afridi should stay in Islamabad where the police will be responsible for his safety. The court also asked the police to ensure his presence at the subsequent hearing.
The court also took the DC to task over issuing the arrest orders for Afridi under Maintainance of Public Order rules. When the DC said that the intelligence reports were his only source of information, the court said that the DC should have verified the reports before acting.
The court also asked the DC to clarify his powers to arrest people under the MPO.
The court has set another hearing for August 28 to allow the DC and other officials to submit their replies.
