A 10-year-old girl, who worked as a maid in the house of an influential personality in Khairpur, died under mysterious circumstances.

The incident took place in Khairpur’s tehsil Ranipur. The child was allegedly buried without a post-mortem examination.

Senior Suprindent of Police Khairpur claimed that the main accused Asad Shah has been arrested and other suspects will soon be apprehended. The body will be exhumed tomorrow under the supervision of the judicial magistrate, he added.

DIG Sukkur suspended the SHO of Ranipur for showing negligence in taking appropriate action.

Earlier, a video that went viral on social media showed the child’s body with marks of beating on her arms and back. A statement from the police said that evidence of sexual assault had also been found.

Sources say that the video went viral before the child was buried along with a CCTV video from the house. However, the child was buried anyway.

The parents of the child, apparently under intimidation, said that their daughter worked at the house of their ‘musrhid’ and had died of an illness.

They added that they had been forced to leave their child at the home of the influential personality due to poverty. They also said she had been sick for four days before her death.

The SSP Khairpur had taken notice of the incident and set up a committee to investigate the matter.
