New caretaker govt in KP might accomodate Pervez Khattak’s people: Barrister Saif

Adds that caretaker govt was appointed to eliminate PTI from KP

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader and former spokesperson for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif said that the new caretaker government in the province might accomdate people aligned with Pervez Khattak.

Speaking to Shaukat Piracha in Rubaroo, Barrister Saif said that it would have been better if the Election Comission of Pakistan had come to the realisation that caretaker ministers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were meddling in politics six months ago.

Saif added that the caretaker cabinet had included members of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz, Pakistan Peoples Party, Jamiat e Ulema Islam and Awami National Party. Saif claimed that they had been given the singular target of elminating Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf from the province.

He said that the corruption by the ministers had eventually became so bad that the ECP finally woke up.

Saif said that the cabinet had already become illegal after its 90-day duration expired and the government had been dragged till August without any legal cover. He added that the caretaker government had even meddled in policy matters which were beyond its domain.

He added that removing the cabinet was not enough, and the ECP should reverse the policy decisions made by the cabinet including transfers and postings.

Saif added that there was no legal and political way for Pervez Khattak to come back into power and the former PTI leader might even lose his own seat.

He also claimed that since Khattak had formed his own splinter group after leaving the PTI, he was trying to apply pressure to have his people ‘accomodated’. Saif said he was afraid the new caretaker cabinet might include people from PTI-P.

Saif also claimed that Fazal ur Rehman was initially being favoured in the province, but the focus had now shifted to Pervez Khattak.

Asked about how he felt regarding the fact that both of PTI’s chief ministers in Kp had left the party, Saif replied that everyone knew how political developments take place in the country.

He added that Khattak had not wanted Mahmood Khan to become CM and had stayed disgruntled for five years. He also said that when the party faced tough times both the men had chosen the easy way out and had left the party.

Saif added that there could be two reasons behind the departure of the former CMs from PTI: they were either implicated in corruption cases and were trying to save themselves or they had some personal greed that they hoped to fulfill.

When asked if the former CMs had engaged in corruption, Saif added that it was not hard to create a ‘file’ on anyone in the country.

Bushra Bibi’s diary

Responding to an alleged diary belonging to former first lady Bushra Begum that emerged on Friday, Saif said that fabricating evidence for character assassination was not a hard thing to do in Pakistan.

He said that there was no evidence to prove that the purported diary belonged to Bushra and the whole thing was an attempt to affect Imran Khan’s popularity. He said Bushra Begum being targeted was neither something new nor worth taking seriously.

Saif added that if there was any evidence through audio or diaries against the former first lady, the government should have investigated when it was in power. He added that the purpose was not finding the truth but to defame her to deflect from the real issues of the country.

Regarding PTI’s attitude towards Judge Dilawar Humayun who sentence Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case, Saif said that judge’s can only be respected based on their conduct. He added that the Toshakhana verdict was the continuation of a system of ‘dictated’ judgements.

He added that the judge had defamed the judiciary and brought shame to Pakistan through the way he had written the judgement.
