Van-truck collision in Punjab’s Layyah kills eight of a family

Police blame over-speeding of passenger van for accident

At least eight members of a family were killed after a passenger van collided with a truck in South Punjab’s Layyah district on Thursday, rescue officials said.

The van was en-route from Bhakkar to Mian Channu, according to police. They added that the accident occurred near sub-district Chaubara’s Hafizabad bus stop.

They blamed the over-speeding of the passenger van driver for the accident but a final report was awaited. Casualties were shifted to the district hospital in Chaubara.

Last month, an accident involving multiple vehicles on the motorway near Faisalabad left two people dead and 15 injured. Reports said a bus collided with a trailer near the Samundri interchange on Motorway M-3, leading to a collision with six other vehicles. The accident reportedly happened due to over-speeding.
