Doctors at Lahore’s General Hospital on Friday said that the health of Rizwana, the underaged maid allegedly beaten by a civil judge’s wife, is showing signs of recovery.

Rizwana is recovering from her injuries as all her test results are returning negative while her platelets have also crossed the 100,000 mark, they added.

They went on to add that the medical team’s attentive care and treatment have helped alleviate some serious health concerns and the surgeons will decide on operating on her arms after her condition gets better.

Meanwhile, the Child Protection Bureau on Friday took legal custody of Rizwana who was allegedly subjected to extreme violence.

Chairperson of the Bureau Sarah Ahmed directed her team to take appropriate actions to safeguard the underaged maid.

She said that the Bureau will take measures to ensure the provision of education and a better life to the victim after she gets better.

A day earlier, Rizwana was visited by PML-N’s Maryam Nawaz who called for culprits in the underage maid torture case to be held accountable regardless of their power or position.

She said that protecting children was one of the responsibilities of the state and that she would appeal to the authorities for the culprit to be punished.
