FactCheck: Did PTI workers heckle Jamaat-e-Islami leader Sirajul Haq?
A video went viral on social media on Thursday, showing Jamaat-e-Islami leader Sirajul Haq being heckled by some youngsters. Many claimed that they were supporters of PTI who misbehaved and shoved Haq after a rally in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dir area.
But this is not true as per the version of the JI leader in Dir who spoke to Aaj News.
The video, which was shared by many people, showed security personnel safely taking Haq to his car as the crowd continues to ask him questions about his party’s collaboration with the PTI in the past.
“Sir, you were with the PTI when the PTI came to power. Then what happened that you people left the government,” one of the persons in the video is heard asking the question.
Many people from different walks of life lamented the situation and condemned it.
But when Aaj News contacted the JI, they denied reports about Haq being heckled by anyone.
“As the public gathering was in an open field and there was no vehicular access, the car was parked 250 meters away. When the rally was over our own ‘muhafiz’, the security personnel, had to escort them to the car safely,” JI General Secretary Dir district Yaqoobur Rehman told Aaj News.
He explained that as the workers wanted to shake hands with their leader and take selfies, the security workers rushed the JI chief to the car.
“This is wrong that PTI workers surrounded him. This is a misrepresentation. The video is edited and its content has been changed and customized,” Rehman said.
He clarified that innumerable workers participated in their party’s rallies and there has “never been disorder” in their public gatherings. “All the workers in the video are our own workers, especially security personnel.”
