The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl lost its biggest asset in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur blast, party’s Senator Maulana Attaur Rehman said on Sunday.

“Surely they were our biggest asset, especially social media workers,” he told reporters outside the Timergara Hospital where a lot of workers were present. “Our young workers have martyred in it.”

Around 40 people were killed and more than 100 injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up at the JUI-F convention in Bajaur’s Khar area. The event was part of the party’s election campaign.

But Rehman put the death toll at 75 and over 150 were injured. The wounded people have been brought to the Timergara Hospital.

Rehman, who is also the provincial leader of the party, was coming back from Chitral when the blast occurred. According to the JUI-F leader, the helicopter was immediately arranged to move people to Peshawar and an emergency was declared in hospitals.

He added that it was not the first time that the religiopolitical party has been attacked. In the past, he said that at least 19 Ulemas of the party were killed in target killings.

He urged his supporters to remain calm and have the courage to bear the loss.

The JUI-F would give its point of view after reviewing the overall situation, adding that there was an emergency situation “right now”. He asked his workers and supporters to have patience and tolerance.

“We will try to have a complete investigation and bring those involved to justice,” Rehman said and urged party’s workers to reach here and donate blood.

“We were trying to protect our workers and supporters,” said Rehman.
