The World Cup promo is a little too Indian

The promo does not seem to be representative enough for a World Cup

A promo for the One-Day International World Cup has finally been released. Featuring a narration by Bollywood icon Shahrukh Khan, the promo officially kicks of the count down to cricket’s biggest tournament which is now just over two months away.

There is only one problem that even Shahrukh Khan can not fix, the promo does not have enough of the world in it.

The video was released by the International Cricket Council today across social media, with the caption, “All it takes is just one day,” which, if we’re honest, is a great pun on the name of the format.

The video shows multiple scenes associated with world cups - players lining up for national anthems, players hitting it out of the park and more players celebrating.

It also shows fans in all shades, happy, depressed, waving flags and screaming.

However, the video moves only within a select few countries. There is of course a bit of England, who are the defending champions. There is also quite a bit of Australia, who has won enough cups. It also shows South African fans and even old Muttiah Muralitharan makes a cameo. But many countries get a brief shot at best.

Particularly missing is Pakistan, which does not have a team or celebration shot except Shaheen Shah Afridi raising his arms for a split second. None of the three Pakistani batsmen who are among the top-5 rankings in ODI are shown, even Babar Azam who sits at the top.

In the list of old world cup victories, the montage awkwardly jumps from Indian and West Indian victories in the eighties, to the Australian victory in the nineties.

However, the ICC did manage to squeeze in a scene of an Indian fan comforting a Pakistani one.

India is hosting this year’s world cup which begins on October 5. Pakistan and India will clash on October 15.
