Russian Duma’s leader has described the police raid on a Moscow mosque last month as a ‘gangster raid’.

Police had barged into a Chechen and Dagestan Mosque in Dzerzhinsk, near Moscow on June 14. Police has interrupted prayers, harassed worshippers and forcibly forced them on to the ground.

Police had also committed some acts of vandalism in the mosque and demanded the worshippers to show identification documents. Videos of the event were also posted to social media.

The Duma’s vice leader has now said that Russian forces or anti-riot police have nothing to do with the incident.

Earlier, Chechnya’s President Ramzan Akhmadovich Kadyrov, who is considered an ally of Russian Presiden Vladimir Putin had said that the event amounted to incitement and should lead to punishment.
