Rs2.24 trillion Sindh budget passed in provincial assembly

The Sindh Assembly has passed a Rs2.24 trillion provincial budget for the fiscal year 2023-24, rejecting 155 cut motions of the opposition members.

Following the passage of the budget on Wednesday, Sindh’s Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah congratulated the treasury members.

Shah said that the federal government has provided Rs2 billion for the reconstruction of the schools that were destroyed in the floods last year.

The centre will also provide a total of Rs6 billion for the expansion of the KB Feeder of the K-IV project, he added.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto has diverted all his attention towards the rehabilitation of the flood victims, he said, adding that the federal government has approved the allocation of Rs25 billion for the flood victims as well.

The provincial assembly also approved the supplementary budget worth Rs312 billion.

The provincial government spent Rs55 billion on the rehabilitation of flood victims, Rs55 billion on wheat purchase, Rs19 billion in debt repayment, Rs43 billion on healthcare and Rs16 for the payment of electricity bills.

The chief minister presented the budget for the fiscal year 2023-24 in the Sindh Assembly on June 10.

The provincial government announced a salary hike of 35% for the Sindh government employees between grades 1 and 16 and 30% for the employees between grades 17 and 22.

The minimum wage was also set at Rs33,750.
