An Indian contractor took the idea of road carpeting too literally. He rolled out a carpet that mimicked the road and thus allowed him to cut costs and show the project completed.

The video clips of the carpet went viral on social media, where villagers can be seen lifting a newly-constructed road with their bare hands.

The 38-second clip shows a carpet-like material placed directly under the road, which was constructed by a local contractor.

They said that the work is bogus while holding the carpet below the asphalt.

The road was constructed under Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojana (PM Rural Road Scheme), said Free Press Journal.

The contractor claimed that he used German technology for the construction of the road. However, his claims turned out to be hollow as seen in the video.

The locals also criticised the Maharashtra government. They want action against the engineer who approved the work.
